Congrats on your custom wig purchase! If this is your first custom wig, welcome to the club!
I bet the first thing you’re wondering is how do I take care of this thing? You’ve come to the right place!
Not only does Al Jamilah Hair provide luxury wigs and hair extensions, but we also provide our customers with quick and easy hair care tips! We want your newest investment to last you for as long as you need! With proper care and storage, an Al Jamilah wig can last you a lifetime*.
Wig Maintaince
The #1 concern for new wig owners usually is Proper Storage.
There are 2 ways you can store your wig:
On a mannequin head or a wig stand
~OR~
In a satin-lined box or satin bag
Room temperature storage is recommended! Direct sunlight can dull your color and excessive heat is a no-no! See below!
Next is styling!
Most custom wigs have lace to simulate your scalp, so be gentle and mindful of its texture.
A major DON’T in wig care is HOT WATER DIRECTLY ON THE LACE.
Please, do not ever do this! Direct heat on the lace will damage it and cause the hair to shed.
Another DON’T is HEAVY OIL PRODUCTS.
We know wigs are made from human hair, but you should avoid using heavy or majorly oily products. Dime-size amounts of argan, olive, and grapeseed oils are great to use!
The heavy oil will weigh the wig down and make it shine unnaturally. We don’t want that!
Our last DON’T for this post is EXCESSIVE OR DIRECT HEAT ON THE HAIR.
When using a curling or straightening iron, always, always, always use a heat protectant! This is where we treat the wig like the hairs on our heads. We don’t want to fry the hair! When choosing a heat protectant, keep in mind how oily the product may be!
Now for colored/textured wig tips! If you ordered a colored or textured wig, nice choice!
AlJamilah’s biggest suggestion is to avoid seawater, chlorinated water, and hot/boiling water. While this applies to all wigs, we want to preserve the special qualities of your colored and textured ones!
If your wig does come in contact with these elements, immediately condition your wig afterward.
For light or lighter-colored wigs (blondes, semi-blondes, etc.), you need to be extra careful. These wigs are naturally more delicate and are more prone to drying than darker-colored hair.
*Raw hair products can last a lifetime and Virgin hair products can last up to 2 to 5 years, both with proper care.*
